In contrast, Islam offers simple and logical answers to the questions we have been discussing – answers that in no way defy science or logic. Indeed, the manner of dealing with these topics can quite correctly be termed as scientific. With regard to the Divine Being, it makes an unambiguous statement. Prophet Muhammad was asked by a delegation arriving from Yemen: “Tell us about the beginning of the affair.” He replied, “There was Allah, and there was nothing other than Him (Narrated by al-Bukhari) This means there was an instance before astronomical time when nothing existed but God. In other words, God has always been above and apart from the time by which humans reckon. In fact, time is something He created along with the material creation of the universe. Astronomical time began from the moment its creation was triggered. The human sense of time and direction is almost certainly related to the expansion of the universe. But the Divine Being was there before the creation of the universe and of time.
The Big Bang theory suggests that the presently expanding universe began with a singularity at which the space-time curvature was infinite. From that point developed all the particles, forces and dimensions of the creation we observe today. And the Qur’an says:
“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and then We separated them?” (21:30)
